Deacons
The mission of Mount Vernon Baptist Church is "to glorify God by bringing people to Jesus & membership in His family; leading them to magnify God through worship in spirit & in truth; developing them to Christ-like maturity; and equipping & empowering them for ministry through personal service in the church, community & world."
The Role of the Deacons
As Christians, we are called to belong as well as believe. We are meant to belong to Christ’s family & be members of his body. The Deacons are charged with helping people connect with God & each other through Jesus Christ & His church. "So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers & foreigners. You are citizens along with all of Gold’s holy people. You are members of God’s family." Ephesians 2:19 (NLT)
The Deacons provide pastoral care by ministering to the congregation through ministries of the Word, of Intercession & of Encouragement. They are called & trained to work alongside the staff as lay ministers, seeking to provide caring ministries to the church following the guidelines of their historic biblical office.
The Deacons serve a vital role in assisting the church ministry staff in ministering to the needs of the church body. In this role, they maintain close communication with both the membership & the staff ministers. In so doing they seek to fulfill the biblical mandate, "Help carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will obey the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2 (TEV)
