Which service should I attend and what will it be like?
We strive for all our services to be worshipful, energetic and point towards God. The message seeks to make God's Word practical and relevant to life. Dr. Runion is a gifted speaker utilizing humor, depth, stories and illustrations of impact in each message.
The music at the 9 a.m. service utilizes some of the most current contemporary praise songs, accompanied by a praise band and led by a worship team.
The music at the 10:30 a.m. service offers some traditional favorite hymns led by an adult choir and accompanied by the organ and piano.
What is available for my kids?

How long does a worship service last?
Typically a worship service will last one hour.
What do I wear?
People who come to Mount Vernon dress in a variety of styles, from business attire to casual. We aren't concerned in how you dress, just that you come!
Will I have to say anything, give anything or be singled out in any way?
We strive to make our guests feel welcome without putting them on the spot. You can rest assured that you will never be put on the spot, pressured to give anything and never embarrassed.
What version of the Bible do you use?
We live in a day and time where there are many great translations of the Bible, so you can feel free to bring any version you may have. Or if you don't have one, we will be glad to provide one for you.
Do you offer Bible Study or Sunday School opportunities?
We offer Sunday School classes we call Bible Fellowship classes at 9 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, and additional classes during the weekdays in both the mornings & evenings. We have classes for all ages. You can find more information under the "Connect" tab on the home page of this Web site.
Who is invited?
YOU are welcome here. Curious or convicted. Lost or driven. Student or scholar. Child or elder. Everyone is invited to join in the many opportunities for worship, prayer, outreach, learning, sharing, ministry and fellowship at Mount Vernon.
What kind of church is this?
Mount Vernon Baptist Church has existed for nearly 150 years and remains a vibrant congregation with about 1,000 people in worship each week. We believe we are strategically located in the Richmond area to reach people of all backgrounds and faiths with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
